FilmScriptWriting Interview

By Interviewer at 10/21/09 14:09

Name of your website?

FilmScriptWriting

Your name?

James Kirkland

Your Location (city, etc)

Darwen

Please give us a short summary of your website?

This site contains loads of information about how to write film scripts. It shows you things like how to correctly format them, and guidance as to what content generally 'works'.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I though that there was not enough information about writing scripts on the web. It is one of those areas where the novice has a chance against the big boys.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This was it, February 2008

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We just thought we would have a name that was very descriptive of what we provide.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Well it's free, has a modern feel to it, and is regularly updated. We look after this site. Many script writing sites have not been updated in years. We have also recently launched a forum, which is proving quite successful already.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To educate the people and earn enough on the income from ads to buy a villa in the Bahama's! Only joking, to cover the costs and share in the benefits of an educational site.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It was a big investment of time and money initially, but now that it is getting established, it is more or less breaking even.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Would probably pay for some advertising.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, we are not selling anything!

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None, it has gone very smoothly.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Programming!

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Providing useful content for people. The promotion then takes care of itself.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

There is more work involved than I anticipated, but I don't mind!

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

It has been running since Feb 2008. Hopefully it will be running for many years to come!

What have you learnt from this project?

I have learnt many aspects of website development and promotion. I hope to learn more about script writing from the members of our new forum.

What is your website address?
