Barbara Lee A Designing Lady Interview

By Interviewer at 11/29/07 13:56

Name of your website?

Barbara Lee A Designing Lady

Your name?

Barbara Lee Watkins

Your Location (city, etc)

Forest, MS

Please give us a short summary of your website?

There is a brief introduction and my biography with information about my first novel. One page is devoted to the Mississippi Eggs that were shown at the White House Visitors Center where we met Laura Bush. There are several galleries featuring my paintings in acrylic and watercolor. One gallery features painted eggs.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I needed to get wider exposure for my artwork and book.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Several years ago. It featured my paintings.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It just seemed to fit me since I'm always doing something designing.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

I've been told that I don't paint things, I paint feelings. I hope it transfers to the viewer.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To sell enough to leave something for my family when I'm gone and to get more readers for my book.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

An artist never balances time and money.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would just do more of the same and travel more.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I am very productive.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

I've always tried to keep the costs minimum so that I could sell my work at reasonable prices.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Getting publicity and recognition.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth and email.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

None.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I've had this one for two years and plan to keep it going as long as I am around.

Replace this with a question of your own

How do you like my website?

What is your website address?
