Chicklit Club Interview

By Interviewer at 10/27/07 22:09

Name of your website?

Chicklit Club

Your name?

Stephanie Pegler

Please give us a short summary of your website?

The Chicklit Club is a site especially for anyone wanting to know everything about chick lit books. With more than 250 rated titles, 150 authors and 75 book previews and counting . . . this is the one-stop site for readers needing their fix of chick lit.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

As a journalist, I am also an avid reader of chick lit books and was often on the internet trying to find out about the latest releases. I created the site to have everything on it that I would want as a chick lit reader - from Sneak Peeks about new releases, to Club Challenges that set reading challenges for individuals or book clubs, to an A-Z of authors and their books.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The Chicklit Club website was launched in October 2007.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We wanted the name to represent the website as a place for women to gather to find out information about chick lit books - Chicklit Club seemed perfect. Its motto is Love chicklit? . . . Join the club!

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

It is very easy to navigate to find authors and book titles. All A-Z titles have a rating out of 10. We also have a continually updated news section on our home page and a ScreenScene section which gives you up-to-date information on movies and TV shows based on chick lit books. The ChickChat section is where readers can send us their comments and read what others have thought about books.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

We hope it becomes the top chick lit website, where readers go for reviews, news, interviews and to order books.

What has been your biggest challenge?

The challenge at the moment is continually attracting new visitors.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Contacting chick lit authors directly and posting on topic-specific forums.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It has had a bigger response from visitors than I would have expected so early.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Not quite a month (launched October 2007).

What is your website address?

Chicklit Club
