Please give us a short summary of your website?
Unique handcrafted artisan jewelry; earrings, bracelets and anklets made with semiprecious gems. I also do customized creations and offer a large selection of stones and designs.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I wasn't having much luck placing my jewelry in other peoples stores. It was selling. I just wasn't getting paid.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I bought my first computer last fall to launch my present website.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
My sisters and I have had this dream for years to open our own store. In keeping with the dream I included them in the name. We eventually will have their creations on the site also. Serendipity means "The faculty of happening upon fortunate discoveries when not in search of them." I'm hoping that's what visitors to my site will experience!
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
All my creations are my own design. I put a lot of love and attention into each piece.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I'd like to have my own store and allow other striving artist a space to display thier creations.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I have to admit I didn't realize how much time one needs to put into the marketing end of it but I've learned a lot and that's always a good thing. I don't get as much time to create as I would. I'm sure that will come.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I'd open a store! I would spend more time in search of beads that inspire me.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes!! I have a lot of people more than willing to handle the marketing end of it once I'm able to pay them.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
I've manage to keep my marketing cost down by doing it myself. I spent as much as 14-16 hours a day trading links, placing adds etc. I'd much rather being creating.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Learning the computer! I swore I'd never own one and now I feel I could give lessons.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I guess I'd have to say a combination of placing ads, exchanging links and meeting other artists on line. I was really impressed with how willing other artist are to help you succeed.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I hadn't considered how much competion there is and how much work it would take to market. my creations.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I had it up and running by mid October of 2007. I will always keep my site. I've received so many wonderful and supportive emails.
